 Winter Pasture Growth Regulator

Gala  ® commercial liquid brand of the naturally occurring plant hormone; Gibberellic acid (GA).

GA is produced by the plants in higher quantities in the warmer months.

The plant production of GA is low in the colder months, and this is why plants grow slower through winter.

GA stimulates cell expansion, resulting in leaf and stem elongation.

A common observation in a paddock that has had an application of Gala® is a noticeable colour change to a lighter ‘green’. This is due to the ‘dilution’ of the same amount of chlorophyll (‘green’) across a larger leaf; i.e. it is stretched over larger leaf cells.

The foliar application of Gala® (GA) at around $5 per hectare is intended to cost-effectively stimulate rapid winter growth of pastures, providing more feed when the pastures would otherwise be growing very slowly.

In other words, it cost-effectively assists in filling the self-grown feed gap that can be usual in winter.

Application of Gala® (GA) is for winter use only, when temperatures are colder and the available sunlight hours are limited.

Gala® is a liquid solution of GA that comes in 1 litre and 10 litre containers. Each container will ‘treat’ up to 25 hectares and 250 hectares respectively, based on the minimum recommended application rate of 40ml per hectare. (Be sure to read the Note: below.)

The recommended optimum application rate by the manufacturer is 40-80ml per hectare.

There can be a temptation to apply a higher than optimum dose of Gala®, in the hope that more growth can be achieved.

More does not = more. In fact, care must be taken by users not to exceed the optimum dose on 80ml per hectare.

Note: Based on results, and in the knowledge that soil applied solid fertilizer would not likely be too responsive during winter, we advise that Gala® should be applied at a rate of 40 -60ml per hectare as an inclusion in a far more responsive foliar fertilizer tank mix containing phosphorus, nitrogen and critical trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, molybdenum, cobalt, etc. This is an excellent strategy because it has the effect of increasing the nutritional status & feed value of the increased pasture growth.

Pasture Plus® and Plasma Power® are both high-performance foliar fertilizers that have been successfully applied to pastures for many years across SA, with consistently outstanding results.
